Music and dance
Dance and song are pleasantly intertwined with the life of the residents of Ioannina. Weddings, baptisms, celebrations and, above all, festivals, come to life with song and dance. Folk songs are heard everywhere and express joy, sorrow, pain, celebration. They are songs of joy and strangeness, but also obituaries.
Local Timbre
The local timbre is dominated by the clarinet, a lute, some violin and the tambourines. The style is artistic, the streets are oriental with Byzantine styles. Usually, the instruments, especially the clarinet, were "inherited" by the son from the father, in order to continue the popular tradition, but also because the instrument is the only means of economic survival for the entire family.
